Charles Wayne Benton, born March 16, 1937 in Houston, Texas, passed away January 14, 2012 in Houston, Texas. He was a resident at Winterhaven Nursing Home for the last 5 years and a veteran of the United States Army from 1955-1958 and was stationed in France. Charles is preceded in death by his mother, Wessie Allred and father, Charles Alvia Benton. He is survived by his daughter, Laurie Benton Gonzales; granddaughter, Christie Trantham; aunt, Maxine Rawls; and lifelong friend, Billy Jackson Sr. A visitation will be held at noon followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Heights Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 17, 2012. Interment will follow at Historic Hollywood Cemetery.
