Charles loved to travel. During his lifetime he visited 49 states, 24 countries, including Canada’s 10 provinces and the Yukon territory. Charles loved nature, visiting dozens of state and national parks. Camping and canoeing were always part of the equation. He was an avid reader with interest in military and Texas history, geology and genealogy. He loved visiting museums, collecting minerals, listening to the Blues, Big Band music, Janis Joplin, Ray Charles and Johnny Cash. Boy Scout Troop 1002 remained close to his heart where he volunteered as an assistant scoutmaster, mentoring and helping shape the lives of our youth for 16 years.

Charles loved being a dad to John, granddad to Ellie and being a big brother to his four siblings.
Charles loved being with his family, choosing to spend every opportunity he could to be with them. He felt strongly that his biggest life accomplishments were being a present, loving husband and father. He worked to make this world we live in a better place than when he entered it. Charles succeeded in these endeavors. He was strong in his faith and lived his life in service to God. His shining light will be missed by all.
