Charles was born and raised in Houston, Texas and he graduated from S.P. Waltrip High School in 1976. Growing up Charles enjoyed traveling cross country in the family SUV with “Mother “and Grandpa Charley. They were known as the “Pioneers-The Good Sam Club of Houston”.
Charles joined the U.S. Navy in 1981 and became an Operation Specialist Air Intercept Controller. He was stationed on the USS John F. Kennedy (CV67) 6th Fleet from 1982-1991 and toured Australia, Spain, Kenya, the Virgin Islands, other parts of the Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean Islands.
As Charles transitioned into civilian life he became an Electrical Journeyman. He worked at Houston Stafford Electric for 14 years and became a Certified Electrician.
Charles loved to cook and prepare dishes in his crock pot. So, in 2004 he changed careers and took a cooking position at Freebirds World Burrito in Katy, Texas. He rose to Line Manager prior to his illness.
Charles met Hazel Scott Malone in 2000 at Stadium Bowl, you could say he loved her at “First Sight”! Charles and Hazel were united in Holy Matrimony on October 23, 2004 in the presence of friends and family. He was a devoted husband and friend. As Hazel improved her bowling average, Charles was always by her side; you would rarely see one without the other.
Charles loved all sports; however, he was a loyal and dedicated fan of the Houston Texans and Houston Rockets. If you were going to come at him with statistics, they better be correct because one thing for sure, he knew his facts.
Charles had another passion, bowling! One of his greatest accomplishments was becoming a member of the “Bad Bones” Bowling Team. He loved the joy and excitement that took place on Sundays between great team players and good friends. Thank you, Dedric F, Steve J, Dwight C, Jackie W, and RIP James B.
Charles was a loving, peaceful, warm, honest and sincere man. His favorite past time was “Date Night” with Hazel as they 2-Stepped with friends at the Red Rooster. He will truly be missed by many.
