

It is with heavy hearts and much love that the family of Charlotte Hyams announces her passing. Charlotte, age 79, originally from Houston, Texas, died peacefully in Grapevine, Texas on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
Charlotte was born on September 25, 1946, in Port Arthur, Texas, to Joseph Michael and Jacqueline Hobbs Hyams, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Michael Joseph Hyams.
Charlotte devoted her life to learning, teaching, family, and service to others. She taught at the college level, sharing her passion for history with countless students. Later in life, she worked as a legal secretary. She graduated from Waltrip High School in 1964, earned her Bachelor’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1967, and received her Master’s degree from the University of Houston in 1974. In 1982, she achieved a lifelong academic goal by earning her PhD in History from Rice University.
Charlotte found joy in reading, spending treasured time with her family, creating beautiful wreaths and embroidering pictures as gifts for others. Those who knew her recognized her caring heart, kind spirit, and unwavering compassion. She was deeply involved in her community and civic action, serving as an active member of the League of Women Voters and consistently advocating for the disadvantaged.
In 1967, Charlotte married Peter C. Peltier, and together they raised two beloved children.
Charlotte is survived by her children, Lisa (Raj) Krishnan of Irving, Texas, and Kelly (Joe) Amoroso of Denver, Colorado; her grandchildren, Annika and Vijay Krishnan, and Jack Amoroso; her nieces and nephews, Jason (Chethana Das) Hyams of Houston, Dawn (Ari) Aryazand of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Matt Hyams of Friendswood, Texas; along with many great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
A funeral service for Charlotte will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale St., Houston, TX 77023. Viewing and visitation for family and friends will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by the chapel service at 10:00 a.m. Deacon Greg Evans of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Houston will officiate the ceremony. A graveside service will immediately follow.
