Christine Ann Bracker passed peacefully in her sleep at age 84 in Conroe, Texas early Tuesday morning, January 30, 2018. Christine lived in Spring, Texas for the past two and a half years in a lovely assisted living community after her husband of 51 years passed.
Christine was lovingly referred to as Chris, Mom, but most of all Mimi. Christine was born in Bronx, New York on January 2, 1934….yes, 1234 DOB, to Catherine and Allen Mills. She was one of 3 children. Christine had one older brother Allen Mills and a younger brother Robert Joseph Mills.
Christine married the love of her life John Bracker and started a family soon thereafter in New York. They had 3 children together. Twin boys on March 23, 1966, John Christopher Bracker and Thomas Allen Bracker. Her daughter, Mary Catherine Bracker Mach was born on July 21, 1967. Christine also has two daughters from John’s first marriage. Lesley Bracker and Daryl Bracker Jones who both live in Vermont.
Christine went to Catholic grade school, high school and college. She was a smart cookie! She worked as a manager in NYC for an insurance company for 10+ years until she met John, got married and had the twins. She decided to stay home to raise John and Thomas and then Mary Catherine joined the family 16 months later.
During her life, Christine lived in New York, California, Florida and Texas. She was a devout Christian and attended church regularly with her family. Christine was very artistic, loved to play cards with friends and family, needle point and sewing, painting, reading, crossword puzzles, you name it. She did it all….after raising her family, she also help to raise other children by opening her home to working mothers which she thoroughly enjoyed….and did for many, many years. She had one family in particular that she felt extra special to, Gary and Linda Rice. She started taking care of both of their children from infant to almost teenagers (Shannon and Adam Rice). Christine was also part of the “Over 55 Club” in Humble for many years, where she and her husband John attended many gatherings, parties and events. Christine was “in charge” of the News Letter there….and took great pride in researching and pulling together updates and proof reading all of the newsletter information.
Christine loved the water….and she visited as often as possible. While growing up in NY she told us stories about going to the “Shore” and the “Board Walk” in NJ and all the wonderful times she had with her family. Christine’s heritage started in Canada and she also told us stories about the farm and her cousins and aunts and uncles. She always had a great story to tell and we all became that much wiser after listening.
Christine is survived by her 3 children and two step daughters. Sons, John Christopher Bracker, Thomas Allen Bracker and daughter, Mary Catherine Bracker Mach. Two step daughters Daryl Bracker Jones and Lesley Bracker. Her grandchildren, in age order, Bryon Jones, Courtney Jones, Erik Bracker, Thomas Allen Bracker Jr., Maranda Nicole Mach, Christopher Michael Bracker and Shelby Madison Mach. Christine was also fortunate to spend time with her great grandchildren in Texas and one in Vermont…..Carson Bracker, Jordan Brooks, Logan Leo (VT) and Gianna Bracker….she also has one more on the way…..due in June that Mimi will be watching over from heaven and his angel, Maddox Norman Mach DiCola. Christine also had very special nieces in her life, Joyce Mills Kradenski (NJ), Tina Autry (TX) and Laura Hodge (CA)….all daughters of her belated brother Robert (Bob) Joseph Mills. Christine also has a surviving dog, sweet Roxy who now shares a home with Mary Catherine and her other fur babies.
Christine will be missed by all that knew and loved her, but I imagine that she has the biggest smile on her face as she re-joins her family and husband in Heaven. She had a wonderful long life surrounded with people that adored her, no matter where you lived in the US. She just had a way with people….and could hold a conversation with anyone! She will watch over all of us for the rest of our lives as our guardian angel.
Christine’s celebration of life will be held this Saturday, February 3rd, 2018 @ 10am.
9am-10am pre-funeral service begins.
