Concepcion “Conchita” Garza passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital on July 29, 2017 at the age of 90 surrounded by loved ones. To know Connie was to know the word Love incarnate. She had an incredible gift and innate ability to make you feel special and like you were a gift from God. It didn’t matter if she had just hugged you or if you were within reach, she was going to grab you again, pull you close, gaze at you with adoration, tell you how cute or precious you were and complete that transfer of love with a hug and a kiss. Whether you were one of her children, grandchildren or friend, her ability to make you feel loved and welcomed was powerful. If you weren’t already her child or grandchild, you came away feeling like you were. Concepcion Garza was a unique force to be reckoned with, as much as her presence was felt because of her affectionate love, she was quick to let you know if she didn’t like something. There will never be enough words to quantify how and why she will be missed but we can encapsulate it by the legacy of faith, love and family she left behind. She made it possible because of the example she showed us all by loving so generously without limit. Her spirit lives on in each and every one of us as we pass those values on to our children. The imprint she left in our hearts and impact she had on all our lives will leave a void that we can only hope to fill collectively. Today, we see her off in the same manner she would do for us, blessing her and watching her go until she’s no longer in sight but forever in our hearts.
Concepcion Garza is predeceased by her parents Cecilio Gutierrez and Francisca Gutierrez, first husband Jose R. Barrera, and husband Juan M. Garza, daughters Rosalinda and Maria Elena Garza and brothers Alejandro Gutierrez, Emilio Gutierrez, Enrique Gutierrez, and Adolfo Gutierrez
