Connie Higgins, born October 16, 1944, in Houston, TX, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. She leaves behind a legacy of devotion, fierce loyalty, and unforgettable joy.
Born to the late Pat and Lucille Simmons, Connie grew up with a vibrant spirit that carried throughout her life. She was a proud 1962 graduate of Austin High School. Following school, Connie dedicated over 30 years of her professional life to the trucking industry, spending the majority of her career as a steadfast employee at Clark Freight.
Faith and community were central to Connie’s life. A devoted member of Sagemont Church for over 55 years, she found deep fellowship and lifelong friendships within her Widow Sunday School group, which she actively participated in since 1998. Connie was also an Endowed Member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Park Place Chapter #731 in Houston, recently celebrating 41 years of service. She served as Worthy Matron in 1989 and later held the role of Treasurer for many years.
Connie shared 26 years of marriage with her husband, Charlie Higgins. Together, they enjoyed BBQ cook-offs, close friends and beers at their favorite ice houses. After Charlie’s passing, Connie continued the cook-off tradition alongside her dear friends, Kay and Danny.
To know Connie was to know her love for simple pleasures and shared experiences; she never wanted to miss a good time, especially if it involved margaritas and Mexican food. She adored the beach, whether she was walking along the shore with her life long friend, Bert, searching for shells or casting a fishing line. A die-hard Houston sports fan, she never missed an Astros Opening Day and cherished the memories of attending Texans games with her late brother, Bob, and sister-in-law, Marilyn. She also loved cruising the open seas with her siblings, listening to her favorite music, and hitting the dance floor. Above all, Connie was loving, kind, faithful, and wonderfully feisty—famous among family and friends for having the absolute best facial expressions.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Pat and Lucille Simmons; her husband, Charlie Higgins; and her brother, Bob Simmons.
She leaves behind a family who adored her:
Children: Debra Golden (husband, Gerald) and Lisa Keane (husband, Patrick).
Grandchildren: Courtney, Christina (wife, Sydney) and great-grandson Ryder, and Corynne Golden; Trajan, Duncan and Maxwell Keane.
Siblings: Patty (late husband, Gary), Richard (wife, Carol), Sister-in-Law Marilyn (late husband Bob) and Pat (wife, Shirley) as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Magnolia Hospice Care for the compassionate and wonderful care they provided Connie.
