

Daniel Messa, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, surrounded by his family. He was born on July 5, 1930, in Houston, Texas, to Pedro and Maria de Jesus Messa. He graduated from Reagan High School, having grown up in the Heights, and attended the University of Houston. He served in the U. S. Navy and later in the Naval Reserves. He was retired from the U. S. Postal Service after 45 years. He served as Vice-President, coach, umpire, and volunteer for 15 years at Norhill Little League. He was a Youth Group Minister and Adult Altar Server at St. Joseph Catholic Church in past years. He served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Joseph from 1989 until his recent illness. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus #10207. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Pedro, Louis, and Ruben Messa; and his sisters, Maria de Jesus and Angelina Messa. He is survived by his loving wife, Yolanda Mendoza Messa; sons, Joe (Sharon), Danny (Michelle), Tony, Anthony (Martha), Steven, Michael (Christine), David (Maria), Corey, and Robert (Dolores) Messa; daughter, Michele Tellez (Cuauhtemoc); 25 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 9, 2012, from 4:00PM to 9:00PM, at Heights Funeral Home, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00PM. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at 10:00AM, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1505 Kane St. Interment will follow at Hollywood Cemetery.
