David Ira Brown of Pearland, Texas passed away on August 7, 2026 at the age of 78 years after a long battle with chronic illness. Born on November 30, 1947 in Houston, Texas, David was the cherished only-child to Ira and Bessie Brown.
David graduated from Charles H. Milby High School in 1965 and then attended University of Houston where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1970. David was a proud member of Theta Tau and enjoyed playing golf, intramural flag football, and softball with his fraternity brothers and friends.
David had a successful, 35-year career in management at Southwestern Bell where he continued to consult for several years after his retirement. He developed life-long friendships during his tenure at Southwestern Bell and was a respected manager by many.
David was an avid sports fan and loyally attended hundreds of Astros games until he could no longer physically maneuver the trip to the stadium. He also enjoyed attending productions at the Alley Theater, collected classic movies, sports memorabilia, and was a Sinatra enthusiast. His yorkies were his best friends and he would sacrifice anything for them. David was a long-time member of the Freeway Baptist Church and valued spending time with friends and loved ones. He was a proud grandfather and especially enjoyed telling stories, joking, and sharing trivia facts when gathering with his grandchildren.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Ira Lee Brown and Bessie Humphreys Brown and his son-in-law, Richard Kevin Crawford.
David is survived by his daughter Leslie Ann Crawford and her children, Kayden and Morgan; his son, Jeffrey David Brown, and his wife, Kimberly, and their children, Kylie, Ian, and Lily; and his stepson, David Watson.
The family would like to thank his neighbors and in-home caregivers for the compassion they showed David, allowing him to spend his final years at home. We would like to thank Joyce, Charles, Lisa, Jerry, Gloria, and Pastor Mark for their support. We would also like to thank the staff at Ignite and The Harbor for helping rehabilitate David in 2023-2024.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at Freeway Baptist Church, 8702 Kingspoint Rd, Houston, TX 77075, on Friday, August 14, 2026 at 11:00 AM.
David wanted to express that he cared deeply for those that he loved, he did the best that he could, and that he loved The Lord, Jesus Christ.
