David Caballero, or “Bear” as he was known to family, passed away on Friday August 23rd at the age of 60 after a brave battle with cancer. He was born on 02/03/1964 in Houston, Texas and raised by his mother Socorro. He attended Milby High School, where he met the love of his life, Margaret. They were married in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church on 06/09/1984. They shared 40 years of happy matrimony and raised three wonderful children.
David was a social butterfly. He loved being around his family and friends and making people laugh, even in the most serious of times. You could always count on him to help lighten the mood. He was known for his famous “dad” jokes, and his smile was infectious. Family was always the most important thing to David. When problems arose, David was the first person anyone would call for help. He was always willing to lend a hand.
David loved to take road trips with his wife- from the Golden Nugget to the Winstar to Vegas. His casino players cards were his postcards marking his travels. Though not always a winner, he would come home with a smile and a free hotel room ready for his next trip. David enjoyed many hobbies, like fishing with his sons, working on his little red truck, watching his favorite western movies, camping trips with family, listening to Elvis on full blast as he cooked, and of course, recliner naps with his grand dog Ginger.
David cherished his grandchildren most of all. “Ampa” was the name they gifted him, and every weekend was spent making his special blueberry pancakes for them to enjoy. He was front and center at every grandparent’s day and award ceremony. He hand-built them a treehouse in his backyard and was first to jump in the kiddie pool to help teach them to swim. He would always say,” I love you to the moon and back.”
He is preceded in death by his mother Socorro Lourdes Infante, and brother in-laws Stephen Trevino and Valentin Jaquez.
David is survived by his spouse Margaret Caballero, daughter Deanna Monique Caballero, sons David Caballero Jr. and Nicholas Daniel Caballero, and grandchildren Micah Angel Caballero, Lucca Daniel Caballero and David Theodore Caballero III.
