

Dave was born December 18, 1926 in Houston, Texas, the only son of Richard Wilson Flowers and Mae Wiley Lewis. He attended Reagan High School, graduating in 1943. He served in the army as part of the occupational forces in Japan. Upon returning to Houston, he attended the University Houston where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1952. He met Jo Ann Houston in Spanish class and married her September 2, 1950. They were married for 29 years and had two daughters. He began working at the Neighborhood News and then moved to the Houston Chronicle where he worked in Editorial. He was head of the department, WATCHEM, during the 1970s. He retired in 1993 after 40 years with the paper.
Fond of singing, Dave sang bass in many choirs including St. Marks United Methodist Church, Central Presbyterian Church, and Salem Lutheran Church. He was also part of the Houston Grand Opera chorus in the early 1960s. In 1982, he joined the Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church choir where he met and married his second wife, Margaret Alice Flowers. They married in 1985 and were married for 25 years.
Dave had many hobbies, including hunting and CB radios. He had a lifelong interest in photography as well. He also took great pleasure in restoring equipment, including a boat and a 1944 WWII jeep.
David C. Flowers was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Flowers, and his sister, Helen Bateman.
He is survived by his daughters Kay Flowers and Karen Stephens (son-in-law Denny Stephens); step-daughters Jennifer Paden (son-in-law Lyman Paden), Rebecca Oxley (son-in-law Brian Oxley), and Elizabeth Murray (son-in-law Michael Murray); six step-grandchildren; nephews Richard and Robert Bateman and their families, and numerous cousins and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 9, from 9am to 11am, followed by a memorial service at 11am at Heights Funeral Home, 1317 Heights Boulevard, Houston, TX 77008.
