

Mr. David James, Jr. fondly called "Butch" by his family was born to late David James, Sr. and Mercedes Sanders in Houston, Texas on April 5, 1950. He received his formal education through the Houston Independent School District, graduating from Booker T. Washington High School with the class of 1968. "Butch" worshipped at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. David James, Jr. knew his path in life was in law enforcement and so in July 1979, he joined the Houston ISD Police Department. In June of the next year, 1980 he was posted to Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professionals; he remained at that posting for over 27 years until he retired from the HISD PD in August 2007. He also worked part time at the Houston Community College System as a Peace officer for almost 21 years. He was well loved and admired by his peers and students at all his jobs. In his leisure, he enjoyed painting, drawing, visiting parks and catching up with friends and family on the telephone. David James, Jr. was truly a blessed man. He was a great friend to many, was amiable and very kindhearted. He was preceded in death by his loving mother and then his dear father. He is survived by his sister, Carolyn James; two brothers, Jimmy James & Michael James; one nephew and leaves behind to cherish his memory, very many cousins and a host of relatives, friends, here in Texas and in Louisiana.
