The Captain made the announcement Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 7:00 am: Flight #DMW-04-11-1951 is ready for departure. Prepare for take off.
David was truly prepared for take off. He loved the Lord. He read the Word, he studied the Word, he lived the Word, he spoke the Word, and he prayed the Word. He has landed safely in Heaven, resting in the arms of our Lord and Savior.
David’s earthly journey began in a small house across the railroad tracks in Hughes Springs, Texas, next door to Hughes Chapel Baptist Church, on April 11, 1951, to Reverend James McKinley Wilson, Sr. and Lillie Mae Wilson. He was the youngest child of their 8 children.
At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a doorkeeper in the house of the Lord. At the age of 15, he moved to Georgia to live with his sister, Dot, to attend school, and according to him, “to save my life.” Upon completing his secondary education, David attended Prairie View A&M University, majoring in Mechanical Engineering, where he received a bachelor’s degree. Upon graduation, he worked in the oil and gas industry as an engineer. He was also a substitute teacher for several years, and never stopped using his engineering skills to help others.
With pride and love, David had two sons, the late David M. Wilson, Jr., and Denzel Wilson, whom he helped rear to be adult men. Also, David was a foster father to many boys and a bonus father to many more children.
On Saturday, January 7, 2023, he married Liz Coleman and gained six more children, Tunnisia Coleman, Eric (Nikki) Coleman, Kenyon Coleman, Natasha Coleman, Kemisha (David) Murungi, and Gerald (Coco) Coleman.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son, and siblings (Junior Lee, Rosie, Willie, Dot, and Carl).
His memories will be felt in the lives of his wife, child, bonus children, granddaughter (Makenlee), bonus grandchildren, sisters (Jo Ann Wilson Simpson and Mary Wilson Davis), nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A visitation will be held at Earthman Resthaven, located at 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060, on February 23, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:15 am.
The funeral service will follow at the same venue from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm.
A committal service will take place at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home & Cemetery, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060, from 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm on the same day.
