

Dolores was born and raised in Houston. She was a graduate of Jeff Davis High School. In 1947 she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education from the University of Houston where she later completed her Masters Degree as well.
Known to her family as “Dee”, her life was full of accomplishments and dedicated service to the community. She spent 38 years with HISD as a dance instructor, choreographer, and athletic coach. Not only was Dolores an accomplished dancer, teacher, and mentor, she was admired by all for her dedication to helping others. Known to her pupils as Miss T, her immense passion for teaching and no nonsense attitude earned her a reputation as a strict disciplinarian. She never used the word “can’t” and at 76 years old, could still do the splits and would be glad to show anyone who questioned her.
At 79, she was the water exercise instructor for the elderly and physically challenged at the YWCA from which she retired in 2005. She was a lifetime member of the American Red Cross and Girl Scouts of America, and also associated with the Boy Scouts and Sea Scouts. She spent over 50 years serving in the local chapter of Dance Masters of America and Allegro Ballet. One of her most cherished accomplishments was The Country Playhouse where she served as Procurer Chairperson and Choreographer for 25 years and received over 20 awards.
Preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Lucy Theofilu, and a sister, Thyony Theolfilu Emmons. She is survived by her nephew Jim Emmons and his wife Wendy, nephew Rob Emmons and wife Pam, nieces Kathy and Judy Emmons. A devout Catholic and charter member of St. Jerome’s Church where she and her mother started the morning coffee shop. A member of St. Vincent De Paul Society and The Catholic Daughter’s Association. The family would like to especially thank the Marquez’ and Potts’ families for their love and time.
Family and friends will gather in Houston for a visitation in the chapel of Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road, from six until eight o'clock in the evening on Friday, September 7th, where a Vigil service for Miss. T will begin at seven o'clock.
The Funeral Liturgy, celebrated by Reverend Joe Doran, will be held in the sanctuary of St. Jerome Catholic Church, 8825 Kempwood, at half past ten in the morning on Saturday, September 8th. The Rite of Committal will follow in the Garden of Gethsemane at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
