Doris Lenora Beezley Smelser, 88, of Houston and most recently of Fort Worth, received her angel wings on Tuesday, February 25, 2014. Doris grew up in Hutto and Austin, Texas before moving to Houston in the early 1950’s. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, volunteer, and a former employee of HISD. Her husband of 40 years, James Franklin Smelser, proceeded her in death in 1989. Doris is survived by her children, Don Alan Smelser and wife, Celeste, of El Paso, TX; Scott Evan Smelser and wife, Patricia of El Paso, TX; and Dana Lynn Smelser Johnson and husband, Mike, of Fort Worth, Texas. She was the blessed “Nana” of Ali, Whitney, James, and Samantha. Visitation will be on Friday, March 7, 2014 from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 8 at 10:00 a.m. Both will take place at Forest Park Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale, Houston, TX 77023. Graveside services will be held after the funeral at Forest Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
