Doris moved to Houston, Texas with her parents and sister in 1943 where she became an RN, courtesy of the United States Army and Methodist Hospital School of Nursing. She fell madly in love with a Navy man, Eddy E. Tessier. They were married on September 9, 1947 and had four children: Robert Tessier, James Tessier, Michael Tessier and Sharon Tessier Broussard. She loved being a stay-at-home Mom and Grammy.
She was a long-time member of St. James Lutheran Church and enjoyed being on the Altar Guild, singing in the choir, and participating in the Women’s Bible Studies, especially the Hannah group with its wonderful fellowship of women.
On December 4, 2005, she was received into the Catholic Church at Our Lady of Walsingham.
The Lord gifted her with many talents. She was an excellent needlewoman, creating beautiful pieces of needlepoint, counted cross-stitch, embroidery and knitting. As her hands were crippled with arthritis, she still enjoyed crocheting. In the 1970’s she took oil painting classes with her sister Lois Zachry and her dear friend Jackie Ford. What hidden talent was found! She also loved being outside gardening, and was a member of the White Oak Garden Club. She was a voracious reader.
Doris loved meeting new people. She enjoyed a wonderful friendship with Kathy Vinson, who over the years became neighbor, friend, and daughter.
These last years she received special care from Jenny Murphy, Nikki Fessler, Manguella Morris and others in the Home Health Care Team. Love and thanks! Then, as her health failed, Seasons Hospice entered her life. Ericka sent their best, caring for her body and soul with such compassion. A special thanks to Yvonne Carmona, Pam Williams, Brittany Wilson, Tammie Sheet, Chaplain Kurt Ennis, Music Therapists Jill, Katie, and Heidi Webster, and all the team. Emily: what a wonderful soul who accompanied Doris in her passing.
A very special thanks to Mandy Heintz who brought so much love and joy over the years! Eternal gratitide to J. D. Beck. His nursing skills are extraordinary; his loving care and compassion unlimited! Doris was blessed with his true friendship! He is a Simon of Cyrene and helped carry her cross.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband Eddy, and now has been reunited with the love of her life. She loved to end her day talking to the Lord in prayer as with a friend. Oh, the joy! She has seen Him face-to-face and rests in His arms!
A private viewing will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, March 17, 2014 at Forest Park Lawndale. Services will follow at 2:00pm with Father Larry Gipson of Our Lady of Walsingham officiating. Rite of Committal at 2:45pm.
