

In the year of our Lord 1989, a baby girl, Doris Jean Alcorn, was born on the 17th of December, to Mr. and Mrs. Howard Alcorn. She was an only child. At an early age, she confessed Christ as her Lord and Savior at Lillie of Valley Baptist Church in Edinburg, Texas, where Rev. E.H. Hill was the pastor. There she was baptized. Doris attended and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Houston, Texas. She attended Prairie View A&M University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Dietetics. She continued her education at Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama. Doris was united in Holy Matrimony to George Woods on August 26,1966 and, to this union, one daughter, Toshia Lashoan Woods was born. Doris was employed by St. Luke's Hospital in Houston for 29 years and retired in 1995. She was also formerly employed for seven years by Foley's department store which is now Macy's. Doris united with Greater Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and served faithfully until her health began to fail. She was a faithful member of Usher Board #3 and also a teacher on that usher board. Additionally, she served as vice president of the Pastor's Aide Committee, was in the Women's Society and was treasurer of the choir and the general mission, at one time. Doris traveled extensively to Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, the Bahamas and Mexico, along with many other places. Doris returned to the loving arms of God on April 4, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Martha Alcorn. Doris' memory will be forever cherished by her husband, George Woods; daughter, Toshia L. Woods; special godson, Micheal Simmons; special nephew, Herbert King. Doris also leaves a host of other devoted and loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, friends and neighbors, as well as a loving and devoted church family.
