Dorothy Allen was born in Refugio, Texas on April 3, 1930 to Alzo and Willie Mae Bland. She graduated from Refugio High School. A few years later, Dorothy received her Cosmetology license. She also attended Houston Community College. In August of 1983, she received her Associate in Applied Science Degree. Dorothy became a para-educator in the Houston Independent School District for twenty-five years, receiving multiple awards and certifications. Dorothy was a member of Free Will Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of her brother, the late Reverend Martin Bland. She was a faithful member of the choir. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Thurman James Allen; sisters Teresia Ryans, Joyce Stafford; brothers Martin Bland, Gene Bland and Jimmy Stafford. She leaves to mourn her daughters, Debra (Elvin) Price, Jr. and Renee Bland; grandchildren Denitria (Eric) Preston, Elvin (Tiffany) Price III, great grandson Aiden Preston, other relatives and friends.
