

Dorothy McDuff Bowers, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2012. Dorothy Gene McDuff was born in Crosbyton, Texas on October 14, 1924 to Barney and Rena McDuff. She was the oldest of 4 children and graduated from Crosbyton High School when she was 15 years old in May, 1941. She was attending her first year at Texas Tech when the attack on Pearl Harbor happened on December 7, 1941. She finished the year at Tech, but wanted to help build airplanes, so she went to Defense School in Waco and got a job at North American Aviation in Grand Prairie, Texas in January of 1943 and helped build B-25 bombers until 1945.
She met Bob Bowers in Dallas in 1946 and they were married at Norhill Church of Christ on September 3rd, 1948 by Elmer Edwards. They celebrated 61 years of marriage. Dorothy started work for City National Bank, Houston, in September of 1948 and retired from First City National Bank in 1986. She was an active member of Oak Forest Church of Christ.
Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend who loved her family and all things good. She will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert F. Bowers, Sr.; her parents, Barney G. McDuff and Rena Elsby McDuff, brother, Buster G. McDuff and sister, Sibyl Dene Smith.
She is survived by her sons; Robert Bowers, Jr. and his wife, Donna, and Richard Bowers, Sr. and his wife, Kathy; four grandchildren, Lindsey Wiese and her husband, Ryan; Richard Bowers Jr. and his wife, Laura; Haley Bowers and Ruhl Bowers. She is also survived by her brother Richard (Dick) McDuff. Special thanks to her caregivers; Bessie, Karen and Lucille.
Visitation will be held in the Waltrip Room at Heights Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 18th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 19th at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Heights Funeral Home with Jay Taylor officiating. A graveside service will be held at Shiloh Cemetery in Kemp, Texas on Friday, January 20th at 1:30 p.m.
