Dear Dorothy
We've had some laughs and good times too
We've been good friends, like family  the years through

In times of need, you've had Jo close by
For your every need, and always by your side

We all love you much, and will miss you here,
But know you're only away - Feeding God's deer.

Dorothy was a “one-of-a-kind”.   She was a very caring person when it came to family and friends and she definitely was a hard worker  - preferring outside work rather than inside.  In the evening you could find her feeding “her deer”, after having mowed her yard that afternoon (yes, at 95-96 yrs old).  An avid Houston sports fan she could tell you the won-lost record of the Houston sports teams.   I loved teasing her when Houston would play the Cowboys.  She did not want the Cowboys to win any game they played.  Later as she was in the care facility I could still get a smile out of her when I told her the Cowboys got beat.   She was loved by family and many friends and she will be missed.  I am grateful for the many loving and happy memories she left us to remember her by.

Dorothy....,.what a force you were!   You will be missed!  Your strength and strong willed attitude  is something we should all strive towards.  Loved so much hearing the stories Jason had of you and James during his years growing up.  You were thought of often even though we may not have seen you as often as we would have liked.  Rest in Peace.

I remember Dorothy Ellie, or “big baby” as her aunts and uncles lovingly called her as one of the most strong women of our family. She could out work anyone, she was classy without trying, she loved sports with a passion, especially the Astros. She was always honest.
 Big baby lost her father at a very young age. She learned to be strong from her mom, Clara, her Aunts Dorothy, Ruth, Evelyn, and Mary, Thelma and Shooty, her uncles, Paul, AM, Bud, Dooner, and W.U. They all stepped in, they all filled big loving shoes. A large family that had stuck together through the great depression, stuck together and helped to raise and love Dorothy. Dorothy Ellie built a beautiful life, marrying her high school sweetheart, and then had her precious daughter Jamie Lee. Dorothy Ellie was a incredible mama, always encouraging Jamie Lee and caring for her.  Dorothy Ellie also cared a great deal for her entire family.  As her mom, aunts, uncles, and cousins aged, she was right there with them, eager to do anything for the people she loved. Later in life, she and my mom loved each other through the loss of their husbands. They truly leaned on one another. My mom considered Dorothy Ellie a mother figure and looked to her for advice and guidance. When my mom passed, Dorothy Ellie, always checked in on me. She and I greived this loss together. I found comfort and peace in my conversations and visits with Dorothy Ellie. I am thankful to have had the love of such a strong courageous lady. I am blessed to have known her and to call her my family.
