Douglas F. Wong, a longtime Houston businessman, died April 16 at age 86. Mr. Wong was born May 31, 1926 in China's Guangdong province to Wing Wong and Fong S. Yee. At age 12, he moved to Houston with his father. He was a U.S. Army artilleryman, participated in the Okinawa invasion and attained the rank of sergeant. He also participated in the postwar occupation of Korea, where he met his future bride, Grace Cheang. They married in 1948. The Wongs operated several grocery stores and restaurants in the Houston area, most under the Doug's monicker. In 2001, Mr. Wong was preceded in death by his wife. Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Sarah and Bill St. John, of Katy; a son, Douglas F. Wong Jr., of Arlington, Va.; a brother, Daniel Wong, of San Ramon, Calif., and his family; and other extended family. Graveside services will be held Saturday at Forest Park Lawndale cemetery.
