Earlene was always involved in her community; serving in numerous civic and charitable organizations, particularly the Texas Democratic party. Earlene and her husband were judges for precinct 231 for 40 years. She was the chair of the steering committee for area 5 and was always delegate to the Texas Democratic Conventions. She was elected to the Texas State Democratic executive committee for senatorial district 11. Earlene was proud of her many years of service in this regard. She was a design consultant for Leggett's Green Door. She was an expert at sewing and all needle work. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching baseball games and keeping score. In 1934, Earlene's uncle took her to a World Series game in St. Louis.
Earlene is survived by her daughters Katherine Carte and Jackie Hardwick; her grandchildren, Alexis Sullivan (Arthur), John L. Sullivan II (Kelli), Kirk Patrick Sullivan (Laura), Thomas Carte Jr. (Lori), Amy Scott (Darrell) and John Scott Hardwick (Sarah). Also left to cherish her memory are her 18 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
Earlene was preceded in death by her husband John L. Sullivan; her father Alexander Kirkpatrick and her mother Dollie Kirkpatrick; son James L. Sullivan ; her son-in-law Thomas H. Carte Sr.; siblings, Charles ; Frankie; and twin sister Imogene.
A visitation for Earlene will be held Tuesday, July 5, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, Texas 77023. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at 11:00 AM, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, Texas 77023.
Serving as pallbearers are John L. Sullivan II, Kirk Patrick Sullivan, Thomas H. Carte Jr. (Chip), John Scott Hardwick, Darrell Scott, Thomas H. Carte III, Alexis Sullivan and Amy Scott.
