As a boy, Ed was an Eagle Scout and graduated with honors from Scarborough Senior High School in Houston, Texas. During high school, he was also an accomplished tennis player. Ed pursued higher education at the University of Texas, earning a Bachelor's degree in Business with a major in Finance. During his college years, he was a member of the University of Texas Longhorn marching band and the Jazz band. He also attended the University of Texas Law School.
Ed worked in multiple executive roles in several large oil and gas companies. In 1974, he demonstrated his resourcefulness by completely rebuilding the engine of his grandmother's 1958 Chevrolet Bellaire, guided solely by a how-to book.
A decorated saxophonist, Ed had a deep love for music, particularly enjoying the sounds of the Doobie Brothers, The Eagles, and Chicago.
Ed was known for his thoughtful nature, always taking an interest in how his family was doing. He was a rule follower by nature and consistently made an effort to do the right thing. His legacy is one of kindness and consideration for others.
Ed is survived by his mother, Gloria Hope, and his brother, Jim Hope and wife Diane Hope. He also leaves behind his niece, Jordan Hope, and nephews, Jacob Hope and Jackson Hope. He was predeceased by his father, John A. Hope.
