Eddie Lee Bishop

Brother Eddie Lee Bishop, affectionately known as "Bobo," transitioned from this life at the age of 78 in Houston, Texas after a long battle with kidney disease and other illnesses. He was born on January 18, 1938, in Longview, Texas. A product of the Longview school system, where he played football as a student. Eddie grew up in a family that supported Gospel preachers in the work of the ministry of the Churches of Christ. His parents Judge Bishop, Jr. and Bennie Pegues-Bishop were faithful leaders in the Church of Christ.Eddie was baptized into Christ at a young age. He was a leader in his church youth group and served roles from song leader to treasurer in the congregations he worshipped. Eddie loved to sing in the church and had a wonderful bass voice. Brother Bishop served the Lord his entire life. Even after becoming a nursing home resident, he continued to attend worship services up until he transitioned. Dedicated services to: Fidelity, Southside and Shady Acres Churches Of Christ.Eddie Lee moved to Houston, Texas as a young man. He was employed by several companies before he retired. He worked the longest as a Port Of Houston Longshoreman (ILA Local 24) and a newspaper carrier for the Houston Chronicle. He enjoyed water activities, playing basketball, dominoes, bid whist, spades and bake. He was also known as the "Pie Man" to some. He was a competitor that was hard to beat. Eddie had a smile that lit up the room, a hearty laugh, and a playful sense of humor.Brother Bishop was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Alvin, sisters Wilma Perry and Billie Pearl Scott, and his spouse Willie Jean. Eddie Lee is survived by his sister, Shirley Bishop-Johnson (Royce), brother Anthony (Betty), sister Jearldean Anderson and brother Gilbert Lee (Linda); adopted son Rickey Wayne Bishop, his daughters Alesia Gayle McDaniel, Reba Johnson (Bryant) and their mother, Louise Manning; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, Willie Jean's children; David, Debra, Gloria, Jean, and a host of nephews and nieces.
