Edith Davis Kresge, 97, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. Edith was born October 23, 1923 in Melville, LA to Joseph McGee and Nettie Spears.

Edith was a strong, independent and caring woman that pursued life to the fullest. Her family was most important to her. She always took care of those around her, even while working at her owned business, Our Motor Company, Inc. from which she proudly retired in 1984.

Edith, also lovingly known as mom, maw-maw or granny, loved quilting. Many people were blessed with one of her handmade quilts. She always embraced the fun in life, dancing to zydeco music, traveling, playing shuffleboard and bingo, manicures and pedicures, having her hair done, feeding the deer and cows, camping trips, cruises, bonfires and family get togethers. Her door was always open and there was always a homemade meal on the table. She loved to cook and never used a recipe; gumbo, biscuits, roast, fried shrimp, all her kids’ requests. Holiday celebrations with family were her favorite. Life never slowed down for her and she loved every minute of it!

She leaves to treasure her memories, siblings, Percy McGee(Morgan) & James McGee. Children; Carolyn Zischang(Kenneth), Verna McClelland(Gavin), Edith Hicks(Gary), Barbara Walpole(Vance) and Raymond Davis(Colleen). Many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Carl Davis(1994) and Floyd Kresge(2003).

Special thanks to Hospice in the Pines and Senior Helpers for their compassionate and exceptional care.

Memorial Services will be held Monday, November 30, 2020, with visitation beginning at 1:00pm and services at 2:00pm at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home 13102 North Freeway Houston, TX 77060.

You were so many things to so many people - what a testament to the person you were and the life you lived. To me, you were MaMaw - the most resilient yet carefree woman I have ever met.

The memories are countless - homemade biscuits, gumbo, macaroni and cheese, chicken and dumplings, quilts, zydeco music, a giant mechanical Santa, weekends at the lake, Jack Daniels and Bahama Mamas - to name a few.

Of all my memories the one that will forever warm my heart is the special bond you shared with Tyler. It is impossible to put into words but anyone who has ever seen Tyler look at you has felt it. Pure, unadulterated love and joy. You gave it to so many, and I saw it through Tyler so clearly.

We love and miss you MaMaw.

Remember, crabbing in Galveston, all night drive-in movies, stock car racing every Saturday night and shutting down play land park rides, so many trips to Melville your hometown, Seeing who could spot the Levy first letting us know we were almost to mamas house, then honking loud to let everyone know we have Arrived no matter the time, playing in the church yard sitting on the porch swing listening to papa playing his accordion singing Jolie blonde.
Mom mom so many memories we push back as we grow , until the end when they all come flooding through . Why mom? I guess so we will have sweet sweet memories, My mom my hero my warrior!

Our family will continue to tell your stories and memories of a life time , Thank You Mom for your Gift of Life!
Your little China doll,

As one of the Mississippi cousins, we always enjoyed our yearly trips to Houston. I will always remember that house Uncle Carl and Aunt Edith lived in. It seemed huge to me then. She was always so kind and caring and welcomed us right in. She raised a beautiful family. I know she will be missed. Lots of happy tears for years to come. Love my Texas family!

One of the things that I always remember the most is the feeling that I would get every time I came to her house. She had a special Way of making everybody feel comfortable. Her kindness and the way she always put others needs in front of hers will resonate in my mind for the rest of my life and that,To me, are some of the greatest moments I've ever experienced in life. Every time I think about Christmas ,she’s the first person who pops into my mind. When I smell gumbo I’m reminded of the many many times she made it for everybody and who could ever forget the smell of Noxzema as soon as you walked into her house that papaw use to always rub on his hands. And it was because of her, That we have some of the greatest things we will ever have in life, each other

It was always a pleasure to be around Miss Edith. She was always very happy and positive. I think the memory that sticks in my mind was the time she was riding on the back of the 4 wheeler with my young son driving. I was terrified that my son was going to drive too crazy, but the whole time Miss Edith had a smile on her face. Glad to have known her. RIP

My last memory of Edith was being with her at her 90th birthday celebration. What a celebration it was! It was readily apparent she was the bon vivant of the party. I marveled at the magnetism she displayed, involving everyone with whom she interacted. Her actions totally belied her age.
I know her death is a tremendous loss to her immediate family and to her wide circle of friends. To each of them I offer my most sincere condolences.

My favorite memory of Maw Maw was receiving the beautiful puppy quilt she made for my room. It was so pretty and had the cutest puppies on it! I can’t believe how talented she was! I hope that one day I can be just as talented and share those talents with my family also. I will love and miss her always.

My favorite memory of Maw Maw is when she went on the boat with us in Costa Rica, and she saw me catch my first big fish. I was only about four! She was always ready to go have fun! I will also remember her hugs and kindness. I will miss her so much.
