Born on April 9, 1947, in Houston, Texas, Elaine was the beloved daughter of Erna (Brieger) and Henry Krischke. She grew up in Houston, attending Dora B. Lantrip Elementary, Stonewall Jackson Jr. High, and graduating from Stephen F. Austin Senior High in 1965. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Education from Sam Houston State University in 1969 and dedicated 32 years to teaching in the Houston I.S.D. She taught for eight years at Rufus Cage Elementary and 24 years at J. Willows Elementary.
Elaine was a member of the Methodist church, growing up in Central Park United Methodist Church. She sang in the choir and held various leadership roles in the Methodist Youth Fellowship. As an adult, she was an active member of the Single-Aires Sunday School class at First United Methodist Church in downtown Houston, cherishing the friendships and activities she enjoyed there.
Beyond teaching, Elaine found joy in spending time with family and friends, traveling—especially on cruises—visiting casinos, and appreciating the beauty of nature. She had a deep love for music, from Polka to country/western and classic rock ‘n’ roll, and she never missed an opportunity to dance. A passionate fan of detective and mystery books and television, Elaine enjoyed immersing herself in suspenseful stories.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Delvin Krischke and wife Sally (Newell), her nephew Dale Krischke and brother-in-law Tony Labruzzo. She is survived by her sister, LaVerne K. Labruzzo; nieces Jo Labruzzo and Kristine Labruzzo; nephew Scott Krischke and his wife, Tammy; great-nephew Paul Catcott and his wife, Rachel; and great-great-nephews Braeden, Bennett, and Barrett Catcott. She was blessed with many dear friends and extended family members who enriched her life with love and companionship.
Elaine’s kindness, warmth, and love for life will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Interment will be on February 21, 2025 @ 1:00pm in the family plot at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery. In remembrance of Elaine, if you wish, donations may be made in her name to Freyberg United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 43, Schulenburg, TX 78956-0043.
