Elia was born to Manuel Garcia and Celestina Ozuna on September 16th 1935 in La Habana Texas. She married her beloved Sam Mata in January of 1953 and they lived together in Houston Texas and together they raised three children.
Elia is survived by her son Samuel Mata Sr. and wife Mary, her grandchildren Brian Rodriguez and wife Rebecca, Celeste Trevino, Samuel Mata Jr. and wife Christina, Lisa Airhart and husband Derrick, and Lorin Zavala and husband Eddie. She also leaves fifteen great-grandchildren Sabrina, Savana, Alicia, Abella, Christian, Adin, Austyn, Isaiah, Elijah, Aelynn, Xander, Tyler, Celeste, Stephanie and Casey and two great great-grandchildren Adalynn and Shawn Jr and siblings Ramiro, Olga, Belinda, Elva and Minerva.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Sam, daughters Yolanda Trevino (nee Mata) and Rosa “Rosie” Mata, and her siblings Alicia, Emilio, Nune, Ruben, Roberto, and Reynaldo.
Elia worked as a Line Supervisor for Nabisco for over forty years. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, bowling, baseball (especially her Astros) and volunteering with St. Luke’s Hospital. She was also actively involved with the Precinct 2 Inner City Senior Program and the Denver Harbor Senior Center.
The family would like to thank God for allowing him to bless all of our lives for so many years with our sweet Elia.
