

Elizabeth Carol Krause Vondy, 86, died at home February 6, 2014. Liz was a wonderful mother and grandmother and aunt, affectionately known as “Granbetty” or “Aunt Betty” by her loving family. She was born in Houston on February 22, 1927, and graduated from Reagan High School where she was Drum Major of the Reagan Red Coats. She received her BA and Masters in English from Rice University and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. In 1946 she was named the youngest professor at Southwest Texas Junior College. She went on to be an extraordinary teacher and mentor for the rest of her life not only in the academic field, but also as a Bronze Lifemaster in the American Contract Bridge League, and most importantly as a Christian leader in her church. She was a charter member of the Westchase Campus of First United Methodist Church and was an active member of the Adult Bible Hour. She spent her life serving her family and her Lord, and leading by example. She was married for 59 years to the love of her life, Lyndon Vondy, who predeceased her. She is survived by two daughters, Amy Lawrynovicz (Stan) and Lisa Andreason (Kurt), six grandchildren, Lexie, Kerry, Adrian, Max, Nicholas and Alex, and one great-granddaughter Kaylee. Visitation will be at the Heights Funeral Home, 317 Heights Blvd, Houston, TX 77008, on Monday, February 10th from 6pm-8pm. A Celebration of her life will be held at First United Methodist Church- Westchase, 10570 Westpark Drive, Houston, TX 77042, Tuesday, February 11th at 2pm.
