

Ella Mae Malek passed away peacefully at the age of 97 on February 15, 2011 with her daughters by her side. Ella Mae was born to the late Adolph Wied and Louise (George) Wied in Altair, TX on May 13, 1913 and was raised in Garwood. She married Leo Malek Sr. and moved to Houston in 1934, they were married for 64 years until his passing. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and friend, a loyal employee retiring from American Can Co. after 27 yrs. She was a member of the Altar Society at St. Rose of Lima and had a love for gardening which won her yard of month numerous times. She will be missed greatly and remembered forever by the many she blessed with her loving heart.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sisters, Nelda Wied & Delta Mandell; brothers, Walter, Johnny, and L.D. Wied; son, Leo Malek Jr.; grandson, Michael Lucherk; great-grandson, Adam Drabek. She is survived by her brother, Albert Wied and wife Clara Mae of El Campo; daughters, Annie Drabek and husband Jerry Sr. of Houston, Marilyn Lucherk and husband Floyd of Hempstead; daughter-in-law, Mary Lue Malek of Navasota; 11 Grandchildren; 28 Great-Grandchildren & 5 Great-Great-Grandchildren with two more on the way, and close friends Regina Jozwiak and Erma Ledezma.
Services will be held at St. Rose of Lima 3600 Brinkman Houston, TX. The family will receive visitors from 5 PM to 7PM on Friday, February 18, 2011 with the rosary beginning at 7 PM. A funeral mass will be officiated by Father Ed. Kucera at 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 19, 2011. A graveside blessing and interment will follow at Earthman’s Resthaven.
