Ella White was born to Herman and Ella Gerken, both farmers, in Beasley, Texas. She was the sixth of seven children and is the last survivor of her childhood family. She lived the past several years in the Holly Hall Retirement Center where she enjoyed the bridge games, and social life provided by the facility.
Ella loved to play bridge, dominoes, read and cook for her grandchildren. She was usually the life of the party and was referred to as the "firecracker" by her grandsons.
Ella started life on a rural cotton farm, later worked as a telephone operator and realtor. She cared for her husband, R.L, a major in the United States Air Force who preceded her in death in 2009. Together they traveled the world and played lots of bridge together. She also enjoyed visiting with family and usually beating them in games of cards, dominoes or murder, a marble game on a wooden board created in Beasley, Texas.
Ella is survived by her son, Richard White and his wife, Mary, and her daughter Cheryl Jo White, M.D., and her husband John Hennessy, PhD, along with numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held at Holly Hall Chapel on Sunday February 6. Interment will be Thursday February 10, 2022, at Veterans National cemetery with her late husband R L White.
