Erma attended school in HISD from Elementary to High School. Growing up in a Christian home where a true foundation was laid, she gave her life to Christ at an early age, and was baptized. She was a devoted member of Greater Zion for 72 yrs. under the leadership of late Pastors, Pastor S.B Parker Sr, Pastor Curtis C. Lewis Sr. (her brother in law), and her dearly loved current Pastor Dayle Perry Sr.
She loved old hymns. Her favorites were “Pass Me Not O Gentle Savior” and “This Is My Story.” She loved Bible Study, Singing, Praising the Lord and attending church.
Erma gave birth to a handsome, talented, outgoing son Craig Darryl Jackson Sr. Her only child, to whom she was a phenomenal Mother.
Erma worked as a LVN/RN at Autumn Hills Convalescent Center for 30 years before retiring.
Erma was known by her siblings as “Little Sister” and her nieces, nephews and church family as “Nanny.” A soft spoken, quiet, loving God fearing woman that was loved and admired by many people she came in contact with. She loved her western movies, soaps and game shows. You bet not touch her remote or get checked very quickly.
Oh how God knows, Nanny will be truly missed, and remembered for her laughter, sense of humor, smile, encouraging words, guidance, loving, willing, giving heart and much more.
On June 22, 2021, the Lord softly whispered Erma Dean…Nanny’s name calling her to rest from her ailings and afflictions.
She is preceded in death by her parents Elco and Doris Jackson; two sisters: Burnie “Baby Jean’’, “Deborah’’ Debbie; her brother: Elco “Sonny”; her only son Craig Darryl “Lamie” Jackson Sr. and grandson: Darnell Jackson.
She leaves precious, cherished memories with her loving sister Eunice, devoted niece/daughter Erma “Miss Bea; dedicated daughter Shonda; 4 dearly loved grandchildren Craig (Brianna), Coren (Shelby), Amber, Dystani; 2 great-grand hearts Craig III and Jeremiah “Pat Baby Poppa.”
A host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, relatives and friends.
Nanny knew Phil. 1:20-23 to live is Christ, but to die is gain. My earthly days are finally finished and I’m now at home forever with Jesus in eternity. No more pain, medication or suffering. It’s ok to cry but not as if there’s no hope. Just keep your hands in the Lord’s hands…we will see each other again.
Love You All
Erma “Nanny” Jackson
