Ernest Edward Williams, Jr., beloved husband, brother, son, nephew, uncle, brother-in-law, and friend, passed away on March 15, 2018, at the age of 48. Born in Houston, Texas on October 13, 1969, Ern was the first-born son of Ernest and Jeannette Williams. Together with his loving wife Laura of over 20 years, Ern lived in Houston most of his life, although the two lived in Chicago for 9 years. A graduate of Waltrip High School in Houston, Ern studied at The University of Texas at Austin and the also the University of Houston, where he received his bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering Technology. Ern married Laura Beth Crockett in 1997. He was a programmer for Midas for many years, helping to create software that is still commercially used today after 20 years’ time. More recently, he worked at Schlumberger as a cutting edge programmer for mobile apps.
Always a kid at heart, Ern “still played with cars,” and loved having fun, pulling pranks, and enjoying life. His other hobbies included playing the drums, building things such as his home theatre system, and music, particularly rock such as Rush, Sammy Hagar, KISS and Metallica. He was a skilled snowboarder and rode the MS150 on his bicycle. He also loved training his border collies for agility and won countless ribbons and medals in the field.
His nephews and nieces remember that Ern loved “gross stuff like burping” and engaging in “dumb face” staring contests with his brother Wayne.
Ern was preceded in death by his parents Jeannette Rose and Ernest Edward Williams, Sr., grandfather Johnnie Kopinitz, grandmother Opal Mae Williams, and step-mother Elsie Devine. He is survived by his loving wife Laura, brother Wayne Williams and wife Sofi and their children Zoe and Noah, grandmother Rose Marie Kopinitz, step-sister Paula and husband David McLemore and their children Jacob, Olivia, and Caleb, step-brother Phil Priest and fiancée Lesley and Phil’s son Ian, and many uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Ern will be missed dearly and remembered fondly by many friends, co-workers, and family near and far.
Services will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at 11:00 am with the funeral service beginning at 12:00 pm at Forest Park Lawndale (6900 Lawndale St., Houston, TX 77023) in the Chapel of Angels.
