Early morning on July 3, 2024 Ernestina Herrera reached the “young age” of 97 and then shortly afterwards quietly passed away at her home in Spring, Texas. She faced a fierce disease with great courage and strength. Proving once again that this little petite lady was in fact a deceptively tough lady.
Ernestina was born July 3, 1927 in San Buenaventura, Coahuila, Mexico to Lauro Cordova and Angelina Boone. Ernestina married Jesus Herrera in Allende, Coahuila, Mexico. They both immigrated to the United States at a young age and raised a family of seven children. Ernestina and Jesus were married for 69 years at the time of his passing.
She is survived by daughters: Elsa Saenz (Antonio), Maria Traver (Timothy), Angelina Parra (Jesus); and sons Robert Herrera and Carlos Herrera (Francis); and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sisters Martha Cordova de Arteaga, Lucila Cordova de Castro, and Evangelina De Luna (Rolando) and many nephews and nieces.
Ernestina is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons Jesus J. Herrera and Mario Herrera, daughter-in-law Roseann Herrera, sister-in-law Rosa Herrera, five brothers and a sister.
Ernestina was devoted to God and was a proud and faithful Catholic. Her faith was very important to her especially in those last difficult days. Ernestina was devoted to her family and tried to hold on to life as long as she could for her children but then she was peacefully called home to her eternal rest.
Ernestina’s family would like to thank all of the family and friends for their expressions of love and support. All are invited to attend a visitation with the family at the chapel at Brookside Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank the Purple Team of the Houston Hospice for their professional support and guidance. A very special thanks to Mimi’s Caring Angels, especially Leslie, for their tender loving care of Ernestina. We will always be grateful for everything you did to make Ernestina’s difficult days a little better.
