Ernesto Calderon, 90, passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2012. Born December 19, 1921 in San Antonio, Texas, Ernesto’s family moved to Houston in the early 1930s. During World War II he enrolled in the US Merchant Marine Academy and served his country as a Merchant Marine until his retirement. A world traveler, Ernesto never met a stranger. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Evelyn Espinoza Calderon; father, Eulalio Calderon; mother, Rosa Rivas; and brother, Leonard Calderon. He is survived by two sons, Ernest L. Calderon and Reynaldo Calderon; daughters-in-law Delia and Delores; four grandchildren, Loran Cunningham, Ann Juneau, Kathryn Calderon, and Christopher Calderon; six great-grandchildren, Cole, Cameron, Gabrielle, Hailey, Courtney and Melanie; two great-great grandchildren, Hunter, Axe, and Addie; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale Ave. from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 9th. A memorial service will be held in the Main Chapel at 11:00 am Monday, December 10th and interment will follow. Charitable donations in his name may be made to The Shriners Hospital for Children.
