Ernesto Melendez

Ernesto M. Melendez passed away at the age of 85 on Sunday, July 31, 2022 peacefully surrounded by loved ones. He was born October 18, 1936 in Torreon, Coahuila. He went on to marry Emma Cerda in 1958. He has spent the last 21 years without her but is now being laid to rest with his loving wife.

Ernesto leaves behind six children Francisco, Ernesto, Ana, Armando, Patricia (passed in 2020), and Bertha. He was blessed with 14 grandchildren, and 26 great grandchildren.

For most people who knew him, Ernesto was a hard worker, a great man, someone you would look up to. In Mexico he was a General Manager of a hardware store, when he moved to Houston he worked at the Astrodome in the maintenance department. He went on to work for U of H downtown for 16 years, he started as a janitor and worked his way through the ranks and retired as the President of U of H's personal chauffeur in 2006.

For his grandchildren, he always had a smile on his face and enjoyed their company. He leaves behind many happy memories and fun times. Ernesto could start a conversation with anyone and talk about anything and everything. If he wasn't engaged in a conversation with you, you could catch him watching TV enjoying kung fu movies, novelas, or American Idol. If you see him at a party he would be surrounded by his family enjoying conversation and laughing away. He will be greatly missed by those who have had the pleasure of being in his presence.

A visitation for Ernesto will be held Sunday, August 7, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023. A funeral service will occur Monday, August 8, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023. A graveside service will occur Monday, August 8, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023.
