

He was born in Mixon, TX on December 24, 1924.
Gene was a proud veteran having served in the U.S. Navy as a 3rd Class Gunners Mate in the South Pacific during WWII from 1942-1945. After his honorable discharge, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served as a Surgical Technician in Korea and as a Paratrooper in the 11th Airborne in Okida, Japan until his discharge in 1948.
He had quite the professional background which included being a Southwestern Bell Lineman, and a fire fighter for the Houston Fire Department. He retired in 1985 as a bus driver from Greyhound Bus Lines where he met his beloved wife Tommie who preceded him in death.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and served as Worshipful Master for Archives Lodge 1399. He was an endowed member of Archives Lodge 1399 and the Scottish Rite among many others.
Above all, Gene was kind, loving and a man of faith. He gave of his time to the church and spent his retirement volunteering at local nursing homes. He also assisted with activities in several community non-profit programs. He was dearly loved by all that knew him.
He is survived by his children and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gene loved his family.
Funeral arrangements will be held at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery. Services will be on September 8, 2020. Due to Covid-19 concerns, the family requests that the chapel service at 10:00am be reserved for immediate family only. Graveside service for family and friends will be at 11:00am.
