Eva (Eve) McGinty, devoted wife, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother entered into rest Sunday, January 5, 2025, at the age of 98. We were all so blessed to have her in our lives and she will be dearly missed!
Daughter of the late Calvin & Cora Watkins, Eve was born May 2, 1926 in Sarepta, LA. She grew up in a large family with four brothers and four sisters. She married Albert McGinty on September 19, 1946, who preceded her in death on November 14, 2010. She and Al moved to Houston, Texas shortly after they were married where she lived most of her years.
Spending time with her family was what she loved most. She was always there to lend a listening ear and provide words of comfort and wisdom. She had a positive attitude in life and was generous with her time and gifts. She usually greeted everyone with a smile and kind words. She was a great Southern cook. Everyone especially loved her fried chicken, pizza, lasagna, gumbo and many other great dishes. She also enjoyed reading, watching her favorite TV shows, doing crossword puzzles, gardening and watching the Texans.
She was a devoted Christian, loved the Lord and enjoyed reading her Bible. For many years she was active in her church.
Eve is survived by her children Donny McGinty (wife Pam, deceased), Julie & Dave Swinford, Susan Parker, Linda Osborne (partner Johnny Touponse, deceased) and Tim & Ione McGinty. She had 15 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and recently her first great-great grandchild. She kept in touch with her family including many of her nieces and nephews throughout the years.
Eve was also preceded in death by her grandson Matthew Masden; sisters Ruby Miller, Ovie Burton, Neva Sutley (her twin) and Dorothy Foster; brothers Johnie Watkins, Benton Watkins, Davis Watkins and Ervin “Buddy” Watkins.
