She is survived by her children-Pam, Gail, and Rod Hite; grandchildren—Retta, Ross, John, Mandy, Grace, and Ben; great grandchildren—Annadelle, Hazel, Guy, and soon to be Daphne; her sister—Chips Adams; cousins, nieces, nephews, and all of the friends that she made who will all miss her so very much.
She was a mom first and her children always knew they were loved—unconditionally. She was a seamstress, tailor, and engineer with fabric, yarn, floss, jewelry, any craft; a Girl Scout leader that passed on her love of the outdoors to suburban girls; an entrepreneur; homemaker; animal lover; and plant lover. Professionally she worked retail, was an independent Tupperware saleswoman, was a legal secretary, and finished her career as an administrative assistant at Texas Children’s Hospital in 2016. She was always able to get things done-- especially when she was on a deadline. She could look at a garment, craft, or project and duplicate it. She would then redo it and make it even better than the original. If she had a pattern, she would tailor it to the person she was making it for. She loved making things for family, friends, neighbors, and their family, friends and neighbors. Her favorite place to shop was Joann Fabrics and Crafts and she was “bummed” when they closed up shop. She loved a challenge and was always up to the most difficult task. She enjoyed her “Wild Gals” trips with her sisters and cousins, most of the time to North Carolina but other destinations as well. She could take a cutting or what appeared to be a dead plant and bring it back to full flower –she just stuck something in dirt and it would grow. She always told people that she was a Virginian by birth, a Tennessean by marriage, and a Texan by choice. She liked to tell folks that she was the same age as Snow White. The movie premiered on December 21, 1937 only a couple of weeks after she was born.
We will have a Celebration of Life for her at Waltrip Funeral Home at 1415 Campbell Rd, Houston, Texas on Saturday, February 28th at 2 pm in the Claire room.
She requested that in lieu of flowers please make a donation to Houston SPCA at https://act.houstonspca.org/a/2601ac1?utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=fy26evergreen&utm_term=acqbr&msclkid=d32dec08ea951734531f858e9f5011ab or to the animal charity of your choice.
