Evie was born on August 18, 1959, in Asherton, Texas, to Velia and Fermin Estrada. A proud Asherton Trojan, Class of 1978, he went on to attend Southwest Texas Junior College in Uvalde and later earned his degree in Business Administration from Texas A&I University in Kingsville.
Evie built a successful career in masonry construction. He and his brother, Juan (Jay) Estrada, spent many years as partners at Vista Masonry. He later dedicated 20 years as a Superintendent at Acme Constructors and was most recently working with TCC Horizon Construction. Affectionately known as “Dave” by his colleagues, Evie was respected not only for his leadership and work ethic, but for his kindness and willingness to help. He was the kind of person who never said no when someone needed him. He was a devoted and hardworking professional who truly loved his career.
In 1984, Evie married his high school sweetheart, Sara Morones, and together they shared 42 years of love and partnership. They were a true team in every sense, standing side by side through all of life’s moments and setting an example of enduring love. Together, they were blessed with two children, Evie Jr. and Victoria. He was a devoted father who led by example, pouring his time, love, and energy into his children and supporting them in everything they pursued.
Evie’s faith was an important part of his life. He loved the Lord deeply, and that faith guided the way he lived, loved, and cared for others.
Evie’s passion for sports began in his youth, proudly wearing number 72 as captain of the Asherton High School football team. That passion carried on as he supported and coached the next generation. Known as “Coach Evie,” he spent countless hours at Oaks Dad’s Club and coached basketball, baseball, and football at St. Ambrose, leading his teams to many championships. A devoted Houston sports fan, Evie cheered on the Astros and Texans with unmatched enthusiasm. He and Sara were proud Texans season ticket holders who loved tailgating with family and friends. They traveled to away games and rarely missed a kickoff.
Outside of work and sports, Evie cherished time spent making memories with family and friends. He loved trips to Garner State Park and the beach, enjoyed competing in BBQ cook-offs, listening to Tejano music, and hunting in Dimmit County. Whether it was a weekend getaway, a cookout, or a day on the field, Evie found joy in bringing people together and living life to the fullest.
Above all, Evie was a loving and devoted grandfather. Nothing brought him more happiness than being present for his grandchildren, cheering them on, supporting them, and creating memories they will carry with them forever.
Evie also gave generously of his time, volunteering for the Houston Rodeo for many years, where he served as a Committeeman, Captain, Vice Chairman, and Coordinator.
More than anything, Evie was known for his larger-than-life personality. His laugh could fill a room, his warmth was constant, and he had a rare gift for making everyone feel welcome. He never met a stranger and left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. He was fiercely loyal to those he loved and lived by the code of his favorite movie, The Godfather.
Evie is survived by his beloved wife, Sara Estrada; daughter Victoria Parker and her husband, Zethen Parker; grandchildren Zakai, Zanden, Zinley, Zane, and Zavery; grandsons Kaiden and Hunter; granddaughter Veronica; brother Danny Estrada; sister Mary Muñoz; and numerous cherished family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Juan Estrada, and his son, Evie Estrada Jr.
