Felicidad (Fely) Cariaso Cortez, age 70, went to Heaven on September 8, 2020 after battling with diabetes and dialysis complications for several years. Fely was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and a great friend.

Fely was born on November 15, 1949 in San Jose City, Nueva Ecija, in the Philippines to Jose Lucas and Sofia Cariaso. She grew up with nine (9) brothers and sisters - Juan, Delfin, Premitivo, Dencio, Fernandico, Leonardo, Lepoldo, Liling, and Coring. Fely attended Philippine Science High School, and she was a teacher until she left from the Philippines to come to the US with the love of her life, David Thomas Cortez, in 1971. She married David on March 28, 0972, and they had their only son, David Thomas Cortez, Jr. Years later, she studied diligently and was proud to become an American citizen on January 18, 2011. She worked in retail throughout the years and retired from Walgreens.

Fely loved cooking, crocheting, and selling Mary Kay Cosmetics. All her family members enjoyed her cooking of Filipino cuisine, including favorites like lumpias and pancit. She learned from her mother-in-law how to make Mexican dishes like tamales, menudo, mole and bunuelos. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandsons, Andrew and Jonathan. One of the favorite memories for her grandsons is sneaking out of the house with Grandma for a midnight run to Shipley Donuts because she loved hot fresh donuts as much as they do. She was also an avid sports fan for the Texans and Astros. As well, she enjoyed attending and supporting all her son's and grandson's sports activities.

Fely was a proud mom and grandmother and had unending love for her three "boys" - David Jr., Andrew and Jonathan. She also loved her girl Sheronica, like a daughter. And doted in her great grandchildren - Nevaeh, Sebastian, and Avery.

Fely is preceded in death by her parents, seven of her siblings, and her husband David. She is survived by her son, David Thomas Cortez, JR., grandson Jonathan Michael Cortez and grandson Andrew Thomas Cortez and wife Jennifer and children - Nevaeh Lynn, Sebastian Toledo, and Avery Josephine. Fely is also survived by two beloved siblings (Leonardo and Coring) and family in the Philippines. As well, Fely is survived by her Cortez family including many nieces and nephews. Fely was loved by many and will be missed.

We will always remember Fely coming to the U.S. from the Philippines with my brother David when he returned from serving in the Air Force. She was a shy young woman upon arrival, but she quickly learned English and the American way of life. I remember David getting angry with me for teaching her certain things. Lol! But, Fely was a strong willed person and picked up several things on her own. More than anything, she wanted to become an Anerican citizen and get a job to make money for herself! Fely successfully accomplished this and much more. Some of our favorite memories are when Fely showed us how to roast a whole pig at Moody Park and when she made some delicious Filipino dishes to bring to our family gatherings. Her lumpia and noodle salad were two of our favorites and Fely always made them for us! Yes, we are going to miss Fely, but she is now in heaven with my brother David and other family members. Now, they will enjoy Fely’s Filipino cooking again! We are comforted by this and pray that all family members, especially her son David, grandsons Andrew and Jonathan, and all of her grandchildren will remember that Fely’s spirit will always be with us. RIP Fely...you are with Jesus now. 🙏
