Fernando was a dedicated professional in the construction industry, working as a cement finisher and carpenter. He often spoke about the projects he helped build—including at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, George Bush Intercontinental Airport, and the Houston Museum of Natural Science. When driving past an old job site with his family, he would point out what he had built and where.
Proud of the life he built, Fernando often said he had lived on three continents. Immigrating to the United States was the bold decision that shaped his family’s future. He spent decades doing demanding, hands‑on work—work he took great pride in—so his children could have opportunities he never did.
He was married to Maria Tereza Reis for 56 years, a testament to their enduring partnership and love. Fernando is survived by his sons, Fernando Freitas Reis (Elizabeth Ann Reis) and Carl Augusto Reis (fiancée Eileen Boyce); and by his grandchildren, Dorian Aric Reis and Edith Margaret Boyce Reis—whom he had the joy of meeting briefly before his passing.
Early in his life, while living in Brazil, Fernando became a devoted supporter of Club de Regatas Vasco da Gama and kept a deep love for football (soccer) throughout his life.
Fernando will be remembered for his formidable work ethic, his dedication to his family, and his love for the beautiful game.
