Sonny Butler was born on June 30, 1931 to Floyce and Daisy Butler. He married his wife, Dorothylene, on December 8, 1953 and they had three children, Janice Marie, Jerry Trever and Kenneth Mitchell.
Janice was born on July 17 1955 and with husband, Randy Griffin, blessed Sonny with two grandsons, Jeremy and Jeffrey Griffin. Jeremy and his wife, Madelyn gave him great-grandchildren, Colton, Sophia and Audrey. Jeffrey and his wife, Susie, blessed him with Madison.
His Son, Jerry, was born on September 22, 1957 and he and Diana blessed him with grandchildren, Kristin, Jennifer and Shawn. Kristin’s children, Makenzie and Justin, and Jennifer’s children, Natalie, Alex, Kayla and Nathan added more great-grandchildren.
Kenny was born June 25, 1962 and blessed Sonny with granddaughters Krista,Shannon and Amber. Krista’s children, Quinn, Jr, Jo’L and Amber and Victor’s children, Isabella and Junior, make a total of 14 great-grandchildren.
Sonny has four surviving brothers and sisters, Kenneth (Bill), Florence, Gary and June. Another brother, Larry, and his dad, passed within one week in 1948. He had 12 nephews and nieces and numerous great-great nephews and nieces. His “other” brother and sisters, Ruth, Emmett and Debbie and Lavelle and Clay, their children and grandchildren all thought of him as brother and uncle too.
Chicken… Fish… Nope! Sonny only ate beef – and sausage, but mostly beef. If we were going to a Chinese Buffet, we would have to stop at Burger King and get him a hamburger to take in the restaurant. Then he would eat several ice cream cones. He visited Alaska and ate $15 hamburgers all across the state. Sonny liked hamburgers… And cake… Sonny would get up in the middle of the night and make a cake. Then he would eat it. All of it….
Sonny loved numbers. He could manipulate numbers in his head like a computer, and maybe that is why he was so good at dominoes. He loved to play dominoes and was exceptionally good at it. Just ask his domino friends and family.
Sonny retired from the Pipefitters Union and loved driving anything with wheels, especially his riding lawnmower. The neighborhood will miss him mowing, not just his own yard, but many other yards and along the street as well.
Sonny loved his grandchildren and they loved him back. He could tease and hug like no one else, and his love just flowed. Sonny was a gentle soul and his kindness and generosity were known to everyone who came in contact with him.
Sonny went to be with the Lord on July 3, 2015. He will be greatly missed by his family and his many, many friends.
