Born November 9th, 1923 in Gibsland, Louisiana to the late John Delaney Jackson and Emily Catherine Vize Jackson of Taylor, Louisiana. Preceded in death by her brother, John Cecil Jackson of Monroe, Louisiana and sister, Evelyn Jackson Collins of Taylor, Louisiana.
Twice wed and widowed, Kathryn was adored by both husbands. Wed to Arthur Glen Campbell, affectionately known as “Pop” or “Sarge” on September 9th, 1941. The marriage resulted in two children, Glenda Lane Campbell Mitchell and Gary Jackson Campbell. Kathryn and Glenn were married for 34 years until his death in 1975. Kathryn then married Philip Gordon Mehner “Phil” on April 28th, 1978. They were together for 23 years until his death in 2001.
Kathryn lived in Eagle Lake, Texas for the later part of her life and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Eagle Lake. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother spending her time volunteering at the Eagle Lake Food Pantry, playing cards, gardening, knitting afghans, and baking her famous homemade bread for family and friends, affectionately known as “Nannie Bread”. Every family gathering was met with loaves of Nannie Bread that generally did not survive the car ride home. Treasured handmade afghans remain from the hundred or so she knitted for her family over the years. She was a seasoned card player, playing anything ranging from Bridge, Phase 10 to Uno just to appease her grandkids. She never met a jigsaw puzzle she didn’t like or couldn’t finish. Kathryn was a beautiful woman inside and out, assisted by a weekly beauty shop appointment to set her hair, as well as a strict policy regarding her outfits, most of which were purple….her signature color.
Fondly known as “Nannie” by her five grandchildren: Gay Lynn Enright and her husband Clark Enright, Michael Wayne Mitchell and his wife Rhonda Mitchell, Melissa Layne Mitchell, Jason Kirby Mitchell and his wife Angela Mitchell, and Leslie Kathryn Thurman.
