Frederick Otis Walker, known lovingly as Ricky, Uncle Frederick, Uncle Fred, Uncle Ricky, and Pop, was born April 22, 1954, in Plant City, Florida, to Riley Walker and Flossie Miller Walker. Raised by his grandmother, Cellar Conyers, Frederick grew from strong roots into a man of resilience, service, leadership, and purpose, his family’s beloved “Rock.”
He graduated from Plant City High School in 1972 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Florida Southern College, where he pledged Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. From early on, Frederick showed independence, determination, patience, practicality, and quiet strength. He did not fill silence unnecessarily, but when he spoke, his words mattered.
Frederick devoted much of his life to military service, beginning as a Second Lieutenant and rising through years of dedicated leadership. Remembered as Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Walker in the family tribute, he served as a skilled logistics leader supporting major operations including Noble Anvil, Shining Hope, Task Force Hawk, Enduring Freedom, Noble Eagle, and disaster relief after Hurricanes Georges and Mitch. His discipline, judgment, and commitment made him a mentor to many.
After the military, Frederick continued serving others through his work. He owned Walker Financial Group, worked with Mass Mutual, served with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and later became a full-time substitute teacher for at-risk students at Huntsville High School. He also supported the Huntsville Cultural Center with his financial skills, quietly helping wherever he was needed. He was an active member of the West Main Church of Christ in Madisonville, Texas, until his health declined.
Frederick met LTC Myra Walker in Kansas, and together they shared 43 years of marriage. Their home was filled with family, faith, meals, laughter, and lasting memories. He was the loving husband of Myra, father of Rashone Walker and James Edmonson, and was preceded in death by his son, Fabian Walker.
He also poured guidance and love into Damonica Miller, Elginette Davis Powell, Anderson Davis, Benjamin Thomas, and many relatives who knew him as a steady presence.
Frederick showed love through action. He cooked, taught, listened, corrected, and guided. He taught that there is always a way, that responsibility matters, and that not everything needs a response. Whether sharing a book, a meal, advice, or direction, he knew how to meet people when they needed him most.
He enjoyed life’s simple pleasures: good food, gardening, peaceful surroundings, cigars, conversation, bowling, and the outdoors. Dependable, practical, candid, sometimes stubborn, and deeply devoted, Frederick turned ordinary moments into lasting memories. He was a man of few words, but those words carried wisdom, humor, and love.
Frederick was unwavering in faith, belief, and character. Even as illness touched his body, his mind, spirit, and soul remained strong. He brought calm, warmth, laughter, food, truth, protection, and love to those around him. In every season, Frederick remained steady.
Frederick Otis Walker of Bedias, Texas, passed away August 3, 2026, at age 72. He will be remembered as a peaceful ruler in spirit, a powerful peacemaker, and the family’s Rock.
His legacy lives on through his wife, children, siblings, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, former students, fellow soldiers, and all shaped by his wisdom.
Frederick, Ricky, Uncle Frederick, Uncle Fred, Uncle Ricky, and Pop may be gone, but his love, lessons, laughter, service, and legacy will never be forgotten.
