To me Gai Pham was "Tran's mom," I grew up next door to them and Tran's mom was the sweetest most selfless person I had the honor to have met. When we were younger, she would cook all these yummy dishes to leave for Tran before going to work. There was always some sort of vegetable soup, a protein dish, sides, and desserts with every meal. So during the summer I looked forward to these grand lunches (and sometimes dinner) as I was always welcomed and invited to her home.

I have never heard her once complain of being tired or once seen her skipped a home cooked meal, even after a long day's work. She provided and she worked hard for others, which I wish she would have spent some of that on herself. But that would not have been her, I believe she only ever want to provide and give, and that was what made her happy. The fond memories of what a great mother and beautiful human being she was warms my heart to this day.
