Garry was born to Ray and Gertrude Harrelson, November 20, 1944, in Deming, New Mexico. He graduated from Jones High school in 1962 and received a Business degree from the University of Houston in 1966. He married the love of his life Sharon Maples November 1, 1969, together they raised four children in Missouri City, Texas.
He is survived by his wife Sharon Harrelson of 56 years, daughters Angela Hankin and husband Stephen, Kelly Fruia and Husband Paul, Dena Billingsley and husband Buddy and Son Tyson Harrelson and wife Deanna. His brother Guy Larry (Buddy) Harrelson and his wife Diane and sister Leah Rae Brown and late husband Gary Brown, His grandchildren, Cameron, Spencer, Colton, Raymie, Riley, Danielle and fiancé Jeremy, Savannah and fiancé Drew, Haley and fiancé Nick, Blake, and Trace. Also included are his step grandchildren Tanner and wife Paige, Tate and wife Kelcie, TJ, and wife Kinzie, Lauren Erskine and four great-grandchildren: Miles, Reina, Bowen, and Charlotte and many dearly loved Nieces and Nephews.
Garry followed his father into the family insurance business and spent over 45 years as an individual and commercial Property and Casualty insurance agent, protecting the people and things that mattered most to others — a fitting career for a man who spent his whole life doing exactly that for everyone around him. He was proud to be a strong Christian, a faith that guided him and anchored everything he did. In 1981, he moved his family and business to Quail Valley, a community that quickly became home 40 years ago. Quail Valley gave him everything a man could want great neighbors, lifelong friends, and — most importantly — easy access to the golf course.
Garry was affectionately known as Grandy by many, and he wore that title like a badge of honor. If you lived in Quail Valley and saw a golf cart with the name GRANDY on the front, you knew the man behind the wheel was somebody's favorite person!
Garry was a man who showed up. Whether it was a grandchild's ballgame, a friend in a tough spot, or simply at the dinner table-he was there. As the eldest sibling, Garry was the steady anchor of his family, a constant presence for anyone fortunate enough to be part of his world. Family was not just something he spoke about, it was everything.
There are men who leave a mark, and then there are men who leave a legacy. Garry Harrelson leaves behind a family who loved him fiercely, a community that will miss him immensely, and a powerful reminder to all of us that a life well lived looks a lot like his—full of faith, family, and love.
A private graveside service will be held on the morning of April 15, 2026. All family and friends are invited to the Celebration of Life Service from 1:00-3:00 at Quail Valley Country Club, 2880 La Quinta Dr. Missouri City, TX 77459.
Cheerful colors and golf attire encourage.
