Gene was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eleanor, to whom he was married for nearly 59 years, and younger brother James M. Fawcett, Jr. He is survived by son, Warren, and spouse, Debra, of Pasadena, Texas; daughter, Kay Muntan, of Spring, Texas; granddaughter, Angela Anderson, and great granddaughter, Hailey Andrade, both of New Braunfels, Texas.
Gene was born on January 24, 1931, in Arkansas City, Kansas. He grew up in various locations throughout the Southwest and Midwest before his family settled in Chicago, Illinois, during his high school years. In 1952, Gene graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Civil Engineering. Upon graduation, he began his career with the Santa Fe Railroad. In 1955, he joined Texaco, where he had a very successful and accomplished 41-year tenure. During his years with Texaco, Gene was involved with or led many large scale engineering projects for a variety of facilities.
Upon retirement, Gene and Eleanor traveled extensively, primarily to New England and the Western United States. Their favorite destinations were Maine and Arizona (where they would attend Chicago Cubs spring training games). Gene was a lifelong Cubs fan and watched as many games as possible. He was finally rewarded with a World Series Championship in 2016, citing it as a “bucket list item.”
Gene was buried in Valley Forge Memorial Gardens in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, next to Eleanor and her parents. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 24 at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston, 77055.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Salvation Army, which was Gene and Eleanor’s favorite charity.
