Gilbert Cano Perez, born on January 21, 1939, passed away leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and family. A lifelong Houstonian and proud 1958 graduate of Milby High School, Gilbert lived a life defined by hard work, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family and the people he cherished.
For 48 years, Gilbert built a respected career with Commonwealth and Reliable Insurance. Known for his dependability, steady presence, and warm nature, he earned the respect of colleagues and the trust of countless clients throughout the community.
Beyond his professional life, Gilbert found joy and friendship in his 51 years of service as a brother knight with the Knights of Columbus, Council 4577. He also loved playing golf and was an active member of the Pan American Golfers Association, where he formed many lasting friendships.
Gilbert was one of four children born to Jesus and Estella Perez. He grew up alongside his brothers, Ernest and Jesse, and his sister, Blanche.
Gilbert shared 65 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Julia. Together, they built a strong and loving family, raising four children—Felicia, married to Joey Buenrostro; Paula, married to John McKay; Leticia, married to Max Barrios; and Gilbert, married to Alejandra Gomez—each of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
His family continued to grow with eight grandchildren: Thomas, Stephanie, Brandon, Blake, Gabriel, Jacob, Orlando, and Angelina. He adored each of them deeply. The arrival of his great grandchild, Skylar, brought him yet another source of happiness and a bright spark in his later years.
Gilbert will be remembered for his gentle heart, his loyalty, and the quiet strength that guided his family through every season of life. His memory lives on in the family he lovingly built and the many lives he touched.
He will be profoundly missed and forever treasured.
