Gloria Lucille Meyer Breazeale was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1928, in Houston, Texas, to Charles and Elzina Meyer. She was raised in the Heights neighborhood and graduated from Reagan High School in 1946. She attended Fulbright Methodist Church and later St. Matthews. She was married to James Leo Breazeale, Sr. on May 8, 1948 and they were married for 39 years until his death. From her earliest years, Gloria embodied resilience, curiosity, and a deep love for family that remained the center of her life.
Gloria lived a long and full life, witnessing nearly a century of change and remarkable moments. Through it all, she found her greatest joy in her family, cherishing time spent with those she loved and taking pride in the generations that followed her.
Throughout her life, Gloria held various jobs, but she was especially gifted in bookkeeping – a skill that reflected her sharp mind, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic.
Gloria was spirited and competitive, with a love for games of all kinds. She was also an avid hunter and fisherman, embracing the outdoors with enthusiasm. One of her greatest joys was attending the sporting events of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She spent countless hours in the bleachers, cheering them on with unwavering pride and encouragement. To her family, she was their number one supporter, and she treasured every moment of that role.
On January 5, 2026, Gloria passed away peacefully at the age of 97 in the presence of her loving children.
She is reunited in heaven with those who preceded her in death: her parents, Charles and Elzina Meyer; her beloved husband of 39 years, Leo Breazeale; her brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Billie Meyer; her sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Milton Lawther; sister-in-law Virginia Hill; son, Jim Breazeale; grandson, Micah Gilbert, and her dear friend, Hank Turner.
Gloria leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: her son, Wendell Breazeale and wife Traci; her daughter, Rene Cole and husband Mark; and her daughter-in-law Trudy Breazeale. She is also survived by her grandchildren: James Breazeale (wife Cecially), Denise Gilbert (husband Wendell), Charlie Breazeale (wife Tabitha), Becky Aguilar (husband Justin), and Ellie Cole; along with 20 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; brother-in-law Torry Hill.
