Born September 14, 1932 to Oran and Elenora Perkins. She was always a “Daddy’s Girl”, his constant sidekick. She attended Helms Elementary, Hamilton Jr. High and Regan High School. She was married to Dennis Griffith for 33 years. She had 5 daughters: Donna, Debbie, Sharon, Darlene, and Robin.
She worked at many shoe stores including Vogue, Sakowitz and Kaplans. She had a lifelong love of reading and read over 1000 books. She had a ceramic dog collection that she started as a teenager and had more than 700 dogs. She also loved to travel and took yearly vacations. She had visited almost every state in the USA.
She was quite active in her community visiting various nursing homes and befriending many residents. She always brought books and flowers to cheer them. She started a library at her apartment complex and also led and exercise class that she dearly loved.
She and Dennis were members of Baptist Temple, which had been her childhood church, for more than 30 years. She lived in Spring Branch for 50 years and then, for Dennis’s health, moved to Tomball to be near her daughter Robin Metting, who has been a very great help to them for these past 5 years.
She will be remembered for often saying “Everything we have is a love gift from God.”
After a long battle with illness, she passed away at her home surrounded by family on June 14, 2018. She was just three months shy of her 86th birthday. She will be missed by all.
She is survived by her husband Dennis, daughters, Robin Metting, Donna Groff, Sharon Newton, her niece Julie Gaitz,
10 grandchildren and 23 great-grand children.
Preceded in death by her daughters Debbie Austin, Darlene Robinson, and stepson David Griffith.
